I disagree with some certain Shafi'i fiqh (rulings and/or understandings) and also possibly some other points of contention in creed potentially if people want to make it a thing which splits apart the ummah, muslims into sects etc. over theological understandings but I do draw a line somewhere and do believe in what is best still and most perfect but that doesn't mean that my view is the only legitimate view and/or that other people who have differing views such as Athari's in creed are not Muslims. That's not right. This is really great btw.

Abu Dharr reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me as a leader?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, struck my chest with his hand, then he said:
يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ إِنَّكَ ضَعِيفٌ وَإِنَّهَا أَمَانَةُ وَإِنَّهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ خِزْيٌ وَنَدَامَةٌ إِلَّا مَنْ أَخَذَهَا بِحَقِّهَا وَأَدَّى الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ فِيهَاO Abu Dharr, you are weak and it is a position of public trust. Verily, on the Day of Resurrection it will only result in regret, except for one who takes it by right and fulfills its duties.
And the Prophet (s) said:
إِنِّي أُحِبُّ لَكَ مَا أُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِي لَا تَأَمَّرَنَّ عَلَى اثْنَيْنِ وَلَا تَوَلَّيَنَّ مَالَ يَتِيمٍI love for you what I love for myself. Do not command even two people, and do not manage the property of an orphan.Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1825, Grade: Sahih

Made me cry. Ya Allah may Allah bless the Sahaba, may Allah be pleased with them. What amazingness. It was all meant to be. If Abu Bakr didn't become Caliph, the events that came about after that would have all been different.
Previously I had read only a bit of this book and put it down for later, it was a long time ago, but it was only recently that it Allah (S.W.T.) put it in my heart to want to get into it again (was time). I looked and found the book about a week or so earlier (it's a little special to me, and I try to keep it in good shape) and look at that timing?! I'm still in the process of reading, I'm in the section about Omar Al-bin Al-Katab RT.A. still, on pg. 82 to be exact in the year 17 A.H. (after hijrah - The Prophet Muhammad's migration and "conquest" of Madinah) before the conquest of Jazirah and the removal of Khalid but I did skip ahead and read some about Ali R.A. at the end of the book as well.
It puts a nail in the whole Shi'a religion or theology. Plus the Qur'an itself(!)(quite clearly) states some things about the impermissibility of sexual "hookups" or cheating (adultery), which is permitted by Shia sects under their temporary marriages. Getting fiqh wrong and following wrong fiqh doesn't make one an unbeliever per say though. I still would view the Shia as nearly Muslim. They're very close anyway, like cousins kind of like and Allah knows best about every single person and what they learned and grew up with in their lives and will judge fairly about every person's deen and their capabilities, etc. It's not easy to debate and talk about this and these kinds of complex topics/issues with people but it can be put to rest that there is no doubts that Sunni Islam is the correct Islam. That's for certain...

This lecture has more details on some things and the fights etc. than the above book (which is really compact and just gives a general overview with a sunni-biased kind of point-of-view) but combining the two to study a bit is really nice.
From both of these sources, point to a more merciful view than what I have seen in some schools on certain rulings of how to treat people, specifically Christians, Jews and Non-Muslims. It seems to me the Hanafi school of fiqh gets this most correct in how Muslims should go about treating non-muslims under or in an Islamic system of governance and out-of. I think the hadith of treating Christrians, saying to force them to the narrow part of the road has to be considered also with the Qur'an and how to debate and talk to Christrians and also other Ayat's that state the superiority of Muslims over Christians because we have the truth and we practice and live by Allah's laws and do salat and give zakat etc. so don't act like you are inferior to Christrians even if it is just "acting", outwardly and it's not in your heart to be "cold" towards them. Anyway, it is complicated...It's not okay to say that Allah has a son or any associate god's (little "g" "god" or "gods") or such things. It isn't right at all, placing Allah on such a level and it influences one's life perspective - to say very little on the matter...It gives one the perception that what they do in this life doesn't really matter too much at all, potentially, potentially...
