As far as controlling the mind, I don't think what I wrote suffices obviously - there's more to it than that. "Know thyself". Sometimes it's the body that's making the mind sick, sometimes it's this or that and sometimes one definitely need to monitor themselves and their heart, what is coming to their mind and knowing if it is coming from a place of ego and that which is bad/not-good. Allah know's whats in the heart and everything about the servant and the remedy as well. And (gaining, acquiring) knowledge and spreading good knowledge and doing what is smart can be better than jihad - that's from Ch 1 of Al Ghazzali Ilya Ulum ad-Din. - Indeed, in these times, there is a lot of deception in the world but also much light/knowledge - knowledge of truth and of the highest benefit - that is the knowledge that saves one from the hellfire.

My remarks are controversial, I am aware, may Allah forgive me if am wrong - these are highly contentious issues and subjects and one needs to tread very carefully on these issues lest one slip and fall into the hellfire - we should be afraid - it can be better to just remain silent and keep learning other than getting into online debates and arguments etc. - I think maybe scholars, and especially, authors have in many respects, less chances of being blameworthy because the volume of their expositions or work is greater in overall volume, so the mistakes therefore are lessened whereas if you are just a laymen and putting out only a few paragraphs or sentences or whatever the precision needed or necessary is greater and so the overall outcome...well, is mostly that we hope for the mercy of Allah on issues where mistakes may be made and for a good outcome and outcomes:
